ACL Knee Injury & Laser Therapy

Anatomy of a KneeKnee injuries are one of the most common football injuries. Often when a player sustains a knee injury he is out of the game for the whole season, which is something no dedicated player likes to hear.  Knee joints are cushioned by cartilage that covers the tibia and fibia acting like shock absorbers.  Ligaments stabilize the knee allowing it to move freely.  These components of your knee, along with the muscles of your leg, work together to manage the stress your knee receives as you walk, run and jump.

Laser therapy uses red and infrared light for the relief of pain, to accelerate the healing and decrease inflammation. When the light source is placed against the skin, the photons penetrate several centimeters and get absorbed by the mitochondria, the energy producing part of the cell. This energy fuels many positive physiological responses resulting in the restoration of normal cell morphology and function.

THE COME BACK!

On July 12th this year I injured my knee playing football.  The MRI showed partial ACL tear, Bone Contusion and Meniscus tear.  Doctors told me that my only choice was surgery and I would be out for a minimum of 6 months.  My mom and I decided that we would explore other choices that were available.   It was important to me to be an active part of my recovery, no medicines and no incisions. My mom was on the internet and found Cruz Life Center, she was so excited.  Immediately, she e-mailed Lesia with questions about how the laser therapy works.  We live in Ft. Campbell, KY, where my mom serves in our military.  She took a week leave and we headed to Burnsville, NC.  I was experiencing pain with every step; my knee was very swollen and I had zero range of motion.  Two laser treatments and my pain level went from 7 to 3 (on a 0-10 pain scale).  My mom caught me jumping and feeling good on video later on the first day after treatment.  I received 8 laser treatments and my mobility was greatly increased and pain was reduced to a 2.  I recommend that everyone give laser therapy a try; you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
